Where does the strength come from?

Well I gotta admit, I'm a Mark Walhberg fan.  He's a decent guy in real life, and most of the time his movies are watchable, particularly when his friend Peter Berg is directing.

And that's the combo in Netflix's newest movie SPENCER CONFIDENTIAL, the best Steven Seagal style movie since UNDER SIEGE 2.

Featuring an excellent cast (anything with Allan Arkin is already better), SPENCER moves at a brisk pace as it follows an ex-cop - and current con - as he tries to clear the name of a cop set up for murder.  It's written by Hollywood vet Brian Hegeland (LA CONFIDENTIAL, A KNIGHT'S TALE) and it plays a lot like HARD TO KILL and other similar '90's action movies - and that's a good thing.

No fancy Luma Crane/dolly shots or CG; nope, they just plop down the camera on a tripod and blow shit up.  Walhberg takes a beating every other scene, and in one round of hilarity, nearly gets eaten alive by a dog.  Twice.

It manages to take itself seriously but has lots of comedy too.  Walhberg's in great shape and it's easy enough to believe him doing cop-fu.

It's no masterpiece, but it's good a good soundtrack and great, believable, action scenes.  Totally worth a watch and should make it into every EGEer's list of shit to watch during the plague.

BOTTOM LINE: 3.5 "My God, movies are so bad now that I miss '90's era flicks" out of 5 stars

From within.
