Back when they used to know how to make movies, this little gem kinda appeared out of nowhere and made an impression on a lot of people.

Not a commercial success by any means, Magic managed to gather a cult following because of the brilliant performance of a young Anthony Hopkins, many years from his turn as Hannibal Lecter.

The film features a lot of great performances, including this one by George Burns, who was as underrated an actor as he was a comedian.

I guess maybe that's because he sort of 'always was' as an actor and comedian by the time most of the people reading this were even aware of movies.

Anyways, Hopkin's performance as the desperate and disturbed ventriloquist "Corky" and his slide into total madness is a sight to behold.

This and the tales of terror DEVIL DOLL with Karen Black scared the shit out of me when I was a kid.

That Hanibal performance was always waiting to come of Hopkins, wasn't it?
