A full force gale....

« on: December 20, 2019, 02:50:28 PM »

First was the disaster that is the 737 Max, an airplane so badly designed that it may never receive authorization to fly again, despite Boeing spending an incredible $8 billion with a B on it.  Several countries have already permanently banned it after 2 horrific crashes killed 346 people, while virtually every pilot to captain the craft has condemned it.

Yesterday they had yet another very public failure as it's new Starliner shit the bed by flying into the wrong orbit:

"After being successfully placed in a preliminary orbit by ULA’s Atlas 5 rocket early this morning, Boeing’s Starliner capsule failed to reach its required orbit for docking with ISS when its own rocket engines did not fire properly at the right time.

The orbit it is in is stable, and the spacecraft is undamaged. Engineers now plan to bring it back to Earth on Sunday, landing at White Sands, New Mexico.

It appears some software issue had the capsule fire its own rockets either at the wrong time or for too short a time. The spacecraft was then in the wrong orbit, and needed to use too much fuel to correct this issue, making it impossible to dock with ISS.

However, for reasons Boeing engineers do not yet understand, Starliner’s Mission Event Timer clock malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to think it was at a different point in the mission and at a different time in its mission that it actually was.

…This resulted in Starliner’s Reaction Control System thinking the Orbit Insertion Burn was underway and executing a series of burns to keep the vehicle oriented in the insertion burn attitude; however, the Orbit Insertion Burn was not actually occurring."

Boeing is a leader in diversity.

That's what's really important.

Putting effectiveness and quality above diversity is white supremacy, you bigot.

But Diversity is Strength!

Didn't you know?

Well, at least they got the capsule landing right:

"When you look at the landing, it was an absolute bullseye,"NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said in a news conference later Sunday morning. "It was better than I think anyone had anticipated. That's good for the agency, that's good for Boeing and good for the United States of America."

"When we think about the end-to-end test ... a lot of things went right. I said that on Friday, and a lot more things went right today. We're very excited about the future," he added."

Literally the tech used in the '50s to land.  But hey, if it works it works.

The only real question is why did this take so long to happen?

From the AP:

"Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg Resigns Amid Max 737 Aircraft Problems

The board of directors said Monday that Dennis Muilenburg is stepping down immediately. The board’s current chairman David Calhoun will become president and CEO on January 13.

The board said a change in leadership was necessary to restore confidence in the company as it works to repair relationships with regulators and stakeholders."

A little too late as the Max is doooomed.

Sure. Boeing CEO Dennis Mullenburg's arguably well-deserved Christmas present was getting fired.

But why that didn't happen sooner is not the only question.

Nobody seems willing to consider the that corruption in the form of "diversity" being put ahead of things like talent, achievement, and accountability might potentially have something to do with Boeing's problems.

There may well be other factors, to be sure. But is anyone even willing to seriously consider this hypothesis?

No. Because considering such a thing is heretical to the official religious ideology of the West.

No matter the disastrous scale of the costs, muh diversity cannot be questioned.

How many millions of people need to die? How many billions of dollars need to be wasted? Is there is no limit?

Just how deep does this corruption go?

What levels of disastrous consequence will have to occur?

Let social justice be done though the heavens fall? Why? Because vagina?

Is it he Florida International University pedestrian bridge collapse of 2018 all over again?

Let's just say, I remain suspicious.

there are several groups on Twitter representing American engineers that are displaced by H-1B visa holders who are on fire about this whole thing, pointing out the fact that a lot of this software work was farmed out to Indian coders for between 8 and $9 an hour.

Wow, somehow it gets worse for Boeing:

"Boeing Employees Mocked F.A.A. in Internal Messages

“We regret the content of these communications, and apologize to the F.A.A., Congress, our airline customers, and to the flying public for them,” the company said. The most damaging messages included conversations among Boeing pilots and other employees about software issues and other problems with flight simulators for the Max, a plane later involved in two accidents that killed 346 people and threw the company into chaos.

The employees appear to discuss instances in which the company concealed such problems from the F.A.A. during the regulator’s certification of the simulators.

“I still haven’t been forgiven by God for the covering up I did last year,” one of the employees says in messages from 2018, apparently in reference to interactions with the regulator.

I'm sure criminal charges are coming soon....

What am I talking about, charges are for the Stacks of the world, not giant corporation heads.

But don't worry, I'm sure the FAA has fired all of their people who were so easily led around by the nose... what's that?  Not even a reprimand?  They got raises?

Government work sure must be nice.

And more disaster for Boeing:

"Earlier in 2019 the U.S. air force resumed, after a two-month delay, accepting new KC-46As. That two-month delay was because of FOD (Foreign Object Debris), including tools and other metal objects, still showing up in various parts of the aircraft. This indicated a serious lapse in the management of assembly and quality control while producing these aircraft. By March, after nearly a month of effort to check out aircraft nearly ready for delivery as well as factory inspection procedures, the air force agreed to begin accepting KC-46s once more. Deliveries continued despite the recently discovered cargo lock (unreliable cargo tie down latches) problem. The Americans are now concerned about Boeing, the manufacturer while also needing the KC-46As as soon as possible. This is the same firm that is having worse problems with its new 737 Max commercial airliner.

In mid-2019 Boeing planned to deliver 36 KC-46As by the end of 2019 and later expected to meet that goal even though only 19 had been delivered by early September. At the end of the year the goal of 36 was missed but Boeing did fix the cargo lock problem and this allowed cargo to again be carried. There is one problem left with the accuracy of the remote viewing system used by the 46A boom operator. That does not prevent operation of the aircraft, just slows down refueling in some cases.

Boeing has had problems with its 737-Max commercial jet (now grounded), with the construction of the Space Launch System (SLS) for NASA (a decade behind schedule and billions over budget), and with its manned Starliner space capsule. The list of issues above for the KC-46A is equally troubling, and indicates that the management and quality control problems indicated by the other projects might very well be systemic to the entire company."

Fail city, USA.

This is the right time for an entrepreneur to step up and say, "How about we become the new Boeing?"
