I went to the Detroit symphony orchestra today and took in their presentation of "A Celebration of John Williams" led by Leonard Slatkin.

What an excellent show.  You really haven't heard John Williams until you hear it live with a major orchestra.

Outstanding.

Not to mention cheap!

We got out seats for $15 a piece!

Anyway, among the upcoming shows is a David Bowie retrospective in April, which i an strongly considering taking in.

Parking was a breeze, we only paid $6!

Anyways great show, if you like classical music and want to see a great orchestra, I can't recommend the DSO enough.

Fun fact: DSO conductor Leonard Slatkin's mother was lead chellist in John Williams orchestra when he composed "Jaws".

Saw the great pic on Facebook. Totally jealous! Did they play anything from Harry Potter or 1941?

I have no idea where this will lead us, but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.

They played both, my brother.

They started out with some selections I'd never heard, which were very good, then had an intermission, then launched into the full set.

"The Cowboys" Overture
"Jaws" main theme
"Memoires of a Geisha"
"1941"
"Harry Potter"
"Indiana Jones"
"The Imperial March"

I bought the 1941 soundtrack LP at Kmart 40 years ago. My father figured I thought there was comedy on it or something. I told him I liked the theme music. His confusion was noted.

The 1941 Main Theme is awesome, man.  It's like the perfect WWII march.
