I needed a self powered mic for my Canon HV20. The in-camera mic is a good one, however it is omni-directional and therefore picks up everything around it. It also records the noises from the camera itself; including the tape noise and button pushing clicks. It just won't do for anything other than taping home movies or a sporting event. I heard about this Chinese made mic on a YouTube show. It seemed like the best solution for me especially because of it's top feature: the price. This mic is only $30, but compares to microphones three times as expensive. The mic comes with a mount that fits perfectly into the camera's accessory shoe. The package included an XLR to 3.5mm stereo converter cable which I needed for my camera because it does not have XLR inputs. The cord is a nice length at around 30 feet. I tested the mic inside and outside with the two available settings. NORMAL is best used for dialogue only where you don't want any other sounds but voice. As this is a uni-directional mic you need it to face your subject. The sound lessens considerably the further you get away. If you will be further than five feet you should probably switch to TELE. TELE sounded great outside. If you want to catch sound effects this is the way to go. It isolated the sounds of the birds, but cut out the wind and distant traffic. It really sounded amazing. It's such an improvement over the camera mic. Bottom line: For $30 you probably cannot do better than this awesome mic. I only tested it for two days so I can't say how long it will last, but I'm already very happy I tried it.

It was new. Not everything on Ebay is used. Lots of places (especially in China) use the site as a storefront, just like Amazon. I got it from this store: http://stores.ebay.com/etherwholesaleJust goto Ebay.com and do a search for 14.37'' microphone; you'll find more than one seller with one. The actual cost of the mic was only $14, but shipping from Hong Kong cost $16, more than the mic itself.

Tested it out on the T2, as well as on Crow's cam for interviews and it works quite well. A lot of mic for the money to be sure...
